More than $12 million was raked in by Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., and her campaign during the first several weeks of October, new Federal Election Commission filings reveal.
According to a new filing from Thursday, Heitkamp’s campaign garnered $12.4 million in donations — $7.5 million of which was from small donations — for the first half of October.
“In an outpouring of support for civil and principled politics, Heidi’s received nearly 15,000 contributions this cycle from every corner of our state and 3,000 new volunteers in just the last few weeks,” said Sean Higgins, a spokesperson for Heitkamp’s campaign, according to The Hill.
The donations were made surrounding Heitkamp’s decision to vote against now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Heitkamp revealed her decision on Oct. 4.
Kavanaugh was accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct. He denied all allegations and was confirmed by the Senate earlier this month following an FBI investigation into the allegations.
Heitkamp is set to run against Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer in the 2018 midterm election on Nov. 6. Cramer has a 14-point lead over Heitkamp, according to the RealClearPolitics.com poll average.
