Late-night comedians Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert aired a taped segment on their respective shows, responding to President Trump’s criticism against them at Monday’s rally in South Carolina.
At Monday’s rally, Trump called Colbert a “lowlife,” Fallon a “lost soul,” and included a jab at fellow late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, describing his show as “terrible.”
“I mean honestly, are these people funny?” Trump questioned. “There’s no talent. They’re not like talented people.”
Though Kimmel did not make an appearance — instead, Conan O’Brien showed up in the sketch — Colbert and Fallon made light of the president’s comments by broadcasting a mock video chat, in which they addressed each other as “lowlife” and “lost soul.”
I heard he said some pretty bad stuff about us,” Fallon said, referring to Trump’s speech.
“That doesn’t sound like him,” Colbert responded.
In the segment, Colbert and Fallon agree to meet for lunch at the Red Hen, the Virginia restaurant where last week the owner asked White House press secretary Sarah Sanders due to her position in the Trump administration.
Fallon has faced backlash over his interview with then-candidate Trump in 2016 where he messed up his hair, some saying that the move “humanized” Trump. The “Tonight Show” host has since said he wished he had handled the situation differently.
