British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds are the new parents of a baby boy.
Symonds, 32, gave birth in London on Wednesday slightly ahead of the newborn’s due date. A spokeswoman for the prime minister said that both Symonds and the child are doing well.
“The Prime Minister and Ms. Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning,” the spokeswoman said. “Both mother and baby are doing very well. The PM and Ms. Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
The newborn’s name has yet to be released.
Johnson, who has had a tumultuous personal life, has refused to state how many children he has fathered from his previous marriages and extramarital affairs.
The prime minister recently recovered from a coronavirus infection that left him hospitalized. It is not clear if he plans to take paternity leave from the government to be with his new son after having just returned to his duties on Monday.
