Yet another publication has received a lawsuit threat from Michael Avenatti, the lawyer to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Rachel Stockman, editor-and-chief of Law&Crime, a legal news website, revealed in an opinion piece Wednesday that Avenatti threatened to sue her publication in response to a report titled, “One Thing is Clear From Michael Cohen’s Hearing… No One Likes Michael Avenatti.”
Avenatti claimed the article was “unfair” and “complete bullshit” and threatened to sue reporter Colin Kalmbacher, the publication, and the editor of the article, according to Stockman. Additionally, she claimed Avenatti said if certain changes were not made to the article, Kalmbacher would be “verbally bashed” by him during an appearance on “The View.”
The article, Stockman acknowledged, was an “admittedly harsh take on Avenatti’s performance in court after he filed a motion to intervene on behalf of porn star Stormy Daniels in the government’s case against Michael Cohen.”
Ultimately, the publication did make some changes to the article and included an editor’s note. For example, the headline was altered to “One Thing is Clear From Michael Cohen’s Hearing… No One Wanted Michael Avenatti There.”
Afterwards, Avenatti was said to have sent a text to Stockman which read, “Next Time, pls take my complaints more seriously. Have a nice weekend.”
Avenatti did not immediately respond to a media request from the Washington Examiner.
Last week, Avenatti threatened to sue the Daily Caller and its reporters if they kept publishing “hit pieces” on him. The warning came after the Daily Caller published an article claiming Avenatti never paid a former business associate more than $160,000 that he owed for coffee beans.
Daniels has been embroiled in a legal battle with President Trump concerning an alleged extramarital affair. Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000 in exchange for her silence on the affair, but she filed a lawsuit earlier this year claiming the nondisclosure agreement she signed should be nullified because Trump didn’t sign it and has sued Cohen and Trump for defamation. Trump denies the alleged Daniels affair.
