Washington Examiner national security writer and contributors editor Tom Rogan is convinced that Germany is a bad U.S. ally as a potential war between Ukraine and Russia grows.
Rogan appeared on Fox Business on Wednesday to discuss his recent Wall Street Journal piece, “Is Germany a Reliable American Ally? Nein.” Rogan argued that Germany has put Russian interests over its NATO allies.
“Germany increasingly is not an American ally,” Rogan told Larry Kudlow. “And actually, judged by its actions of consequence, could be described more accurately, accurately as an adversary of the United States.”

Germany declined to send munitions or weapons to Ukraine.
Kudlow goes on to note that the U.S. “saved” Germany in World War II and that Germany appears to have lost that notion in recent years, arguing that Germany’s actions are not helping U.S. or NATO interests.
Rogan noted the country’s reliance on Russia through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline for gas and encouraged Republicans to pressure the Biden administration to impose sanctions on Germany behind the pipeline, noting how it would make Germany and, by extension, Europe reliant on Russia for energy.
Rogan also noted a contradiction between the U.S.’ domestic environmental policy and national security policy regarding handling gas locally and internationally. He also advocated for “imposing sanctions on Russia’s ability to get oil servicing firms and high technology products that they need to keep those fields running.” Kudlow concurred and even recommended that the U.S. take Germany out of the dollar based banking system.

Rogan argued on Wednesday that Italy, France, and Germany’s stances in support of Ukraine is a “wobbly construct” and that the countries have offered “absurd” responses to growing Russian pressures.
