Trump explains away bad polling: ‘I’m actually a very honest guy’

In response to the reports President Trump’s campaign revealed to him he is behind in the internal polling they conducted, Trump called the polls “phony” and asserted he likes to tell the truth.

The New York Times reported Trump told his advisers to say that he was winning in all the polls after finding out he did poorly in the 17 state poll that was run.

“I don’t believe the polls. There’s no way [Joe Biden] beats me in Texas,” Trump told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.

“But even your own polls shows you’re behind, don’t they,” Stephanopoulos asked.

Trump replied, “No my polls show I’m winning everywhere.”

When Stephanopoulos asked about the polls where Trump is losing in many states, Trump said they don’t exist.

“I’m losing in 15 out of 17 states? Those polls don’t exist. I just was given a meeting with my pollster, I frankly don’t even believe in pollsters if you want to know the truth. You just run a campaign and whatever it is, it is. But I just had a meeting with someone that’s a pollster, and I’m winning everywhere,” he said.

Trump then asked to go off-the-record in order to call his campaign manager, Brad Parscale, to find out more about the polls.

Stephanopoulos asked Trump the next day why the news of bad polling bothers him so much.

“Because it’s untrue. I like the truth. You know, I’m actually a very honest guy,” Trump said.

In their analysis, the Washington Post states Trump has made 10,796 false or misleading claims since being in office.
