Hillary Clinton tells Finnish prime minister to ‘keep dancing’

Hillary Clinton shared her support for embattled Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Twitter on Sunday, telling the world leader to “keep dancing.”

The former Democratic presidential nominee posted a photo of herself dancing in Colombia while serving as secretary of state, along with a quote from former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, a Democrat, and words of encouragement for Marin.

WHO IS SANNA MARIN, THE FINNISH PRIME MINISTER EMBROILED IN VIDEO CONTROVERSY?

“As Ann Richards said, ‘Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.’ Here’s me in Cartagena while I was there for a meeting as Secretary of State. Keep dancing, [Sanna Marin],” Clinton tweeted, tagging the Finnish prime minister’s Twitter account.

A video of Marin partying at a house with high-profile influencers went viral earlier this month and sparked criticism from some who claimed that her behavior is not appropriate for a world leader.

“I am human. During these dark times, I, too, need some joy, light, and fun. And that involves all sorts of photos and videos, which I would not like to see and I know you would not like to see. It’s private, it’s joyful, and it’s life,” Marin said after the video surfaced.

“But I have not missed a single day of work, a single task, and I never will,” she added.

Marin voluntarily took a drug test in response to critics alleging that she may have been using drugs at the party, a claim the prime minister denied.

Another leaked video from earlier this month showed Marin, who is married, dancing provocatively with Finnish male singer Olavi Uusivirta in a nightclub at 4 a.m. Marin was also criticized last year for being seen at a nightclub after receiving reports that she had been in close contact with a government colleague who tested positive for COVID-19.
