A new advertisement from the anti-Hillary Clinton super PAC American Crossroads seizes on recent comparisons between the Democratic front-runner and Richard Nixon.
Outlets and journalists from Politico to Watergate reporter Bob Woodward have mentioned the two politicians in the same vein, and the material has provided easy fodder for Clinton’s opposition. The former secretary of state was actually a member of the staff advising the House Judiciary Committee on impeachment proceedings during Nixon’s downfall.
“It’s as if Hillary studied the Nixon model while on the Watergate committee and then decided to replicate it,” Crossroads President and CEO Steven Law said in a statement.
The 30-second video is part of a #NeverHillary-branded ad buy ahead of next Tuesday’s New York primary vote. According to the most recent RealClearPolitics average of polls there, Clinton leads her rival Bernie Sanders by 13 points, though the race has noticably tightened in recent weeks.
