Former Cavs player caught on camera beating up man he accused of damaging his car during LA protests

Former Cleveland Cavaliers player J.R. Smith was caught on camera beating up a man who allegedly damaged his car during the George Floyd protests in Los Angeles.

Smith is seen in a video posted by TMZ kicking and punching a man whom he accused of breaking a window on his car Sunday.

“One of these little motherf—ing white boys didn’t know where he was going and broke my f—ing window in my truck,” Smith said in a video posted after the incident.

“I chased him down and whupped his ass,” he said.

Smith added that his car was parked in a residential area and not near any stores where people were rioting.

“This ain’t no hate crime. I ain’t got no problem with nobody who ain’t got no problem with me. It’s a problem with the motherf—ing system. That’s it,” he said.

Protests and riots have hit nearly every major city across the country over the last week since Floyd’s death.

Floyd died after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on the man’s neck during an arrest while Floyd pleaded for the officer to let him breathe.

Chauvin has since been fired from the force and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers were also present during the arrest and have been fired but not charged with any crimes.
