You may not have won that rec softball league title with your baseball glove, but you’ve still got a chance to make a difference off the field when the Washington Nationals host their annual Youth Baseball and Softball Day on Sunday.
Beginning at 11 a.m., when the Nats open up the ballpark for their 1:35 p.m. matchup against the Florida Marlins, the team is taking donations of baseballs, softballs, bats, batting gloves, catcher’s equipment, youth batting helmets, bases, baseball pants and other useful equipment. Donations will be accepted outside the center field gates until the end of the fourth inning.
The equipment, with a $5,000 grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, will benefit the Banneker City Little League, a Nationals Dream Foundation grant recipient. The league is the first to represent D.C.’s Ward 1 in more than 10 years, according to the Nats.
