Dennis Quaid popped the question to his girlfriend Laura Savoie, setting the stage for his fourth wedding.
Quaid, 65, and Savoie, 26, had been dating for several months prior to the engagement. The pair was in Hawaii to promote Quaid’s new film, Midway, when he proposed.
Savoie, a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas, reportedly dated actor Jeremy Piven while completing her undergraduate degree at Pepperdine University. Quaid, who has three previous marriages, was in a long term relationship with model Santa Auzina, 32, prior to their split, which was first reported in June when the actor was spotted with Savoie.
Quaid claimed the proposal was “spontaneous,” telling Extra, “It was very much a surprise.”
“I had the ring in my pocket … I wanted it to be private,” Quaid said. “She was actually taking a selfie of us, and I put the ring in front and said, ‘Will you marry me?’ — and then she fell down.”
The actor has three children, including his oldest son, Jack Quaid, 27, whose mother is actress Meg Ryan.
Quaid’s film Midway is the most recent WWII epic depicting the Battle of Midway, the famous fight that tipped the scales for Allied forces fighting in the Pacific.
