Energy, food, shelter prices rise in region, report says

Prices for energy, food at home and shelter in the Baltimore-Washington area all rose in April, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.

Energy prices increased 2.2 percent in the past month and 22.6 percent in the past year; food at home prices increased 0.3 percent in the past month and 4.1 percent in the past year; and shelter prices increased 0.3 percent in the past month and 3.7 percent in the past year, according to the index.

Software firm Metastorm files for initial public offering

Baltimore-based business software firm Metastorm Inc. said Wednesday it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission relating to a proposed initial public offering of its common stock.

The number of shares to be offered and the expected price range for the offering have not been determined.

Metastorm offers software for enterprise architecture, business process analysis and business process management. The company?s software helps businesses analyze, automate and improve their business processes.

Metastorm has applied to list its shares on the NASDAQ Global Market under the symbol MSTM.

Arts convention coming in 2010

Americans for the Arts, the nation?s leading nonprofit for advancing the arts in America, said Wednesday it selected Baltimore to host its annual convention June 24-27, 2010.

The convention will bring more than 2,000 artists, arts leaders and educators to Baltimore to celebrate the nonprofit?s 50th anniversary.

For the convention, Americans for the Arts will use more than 4,000 hotel room nights and generate an estimated $2.5 million in direct spending to the region, according to the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.
