Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is calling on lawmakers in the Peach State to end the runoff system for general elections. A runoff happens when a candidate does not receive more than 50% of the vote, a runoff election will then be held between the top two candidates to decide the race. Raffensperger is renewing his pleas for the system to be eliminated for general elections in Georgia ahead of the state’s 2024 legislative session.
Oil prices are on the rise after experiencing a short cool-down transitioning into the winter months. Prices are rising following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and expectations the Federal Reserve would soon start cutting interest rates, potentially serving as a boost to fuel demand. Oil is also making gains after signals from the Federal Reserve of cutting interest rates at least three times in 2024.
Samsung is delaying mass production plans for its new semiconductor factories by at least a year, further slowing President Joe Biden’s plans to help the United States make its chips. The new $17 billion semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, Texas, is delayed until at least 2025.
