Film mogul Harvey Weinstein said he did not get enough credit for helping women succeed in the film industry.
“I feel like the forgotten man,” the alleged rapist told the New York Post in a Sunday interview. “I made more movies directed by women and about women than any filmmaker, and I’m talking about 30 years ago. I’m not talking about now when it’s vogue. I did it first! I pioneered it!”
The 67-year-old said the accusations against him had “eviscerated” him and caused all his work to help women to have “been forgotten.” Last week, the New York State Supreme Court doubled his insurance bond to $2 million after prosecutors accused him of violating his bond agreement. Prosecutors believe Weinstein is a flight risk based on his massive resources and private jet.
Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 70 women and faces at least five felony charges from incidents that occurred between 2004 and 2013.
“I want this city to recognize who I was instead of what I’ve become,” Weinstein said in the recent interview. The media mogul has been accused of sexual assault and harassment by dozens of women.
He has pleaded not guilty but faces a trial early next year. If convicted, Weinstein would likely face a life sentence.
