The Library of Congress is exploring dance as a form of political protest between World War I and the Cold War. In “Politics of the Dancing Body”, the library showcases American choreographers and dancers who used the art to raise social awareness. Items featured include the invitation from Germany’s Third Reich to modern dancer Martha Graham to participate in the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics, which she refused. Photographs from American Ballet Theatre’s 1960 trip to the Soviet Union are on view as well. The exhibit runs through July 28.
