President Trump said Thursday he would not allow the U.S. Navy to take away the Trident pin Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher earned.
“This case was handled very badly from the beginning,” Trump tweeted. “Get back to business!”

The Trident pin is assigned exclusively to members of the U.S. Navy SEALs.
Gallagher was at the center of a high-profile war crimes case. Top Navy officials had reportedly wanted to begin the process of removing Gallagher from the Navy SEALs but never got clearance from the White House to do so.
A military judge acquitted Gallagher in July of murder charges but convicted him of posing with a corpse. He was demoted in rank from chief to petty officer first class, which Trump later reversed.
