President Trump and Kim Jong Un will cut short their summit, the White House announced Thursday.
The time of a press conference following a planned joint signing ceremony was moved up two hours to 2 p.m. local time, as the leaders met in Hanoi, Vietnam, for their second bilateral summit.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders did not say whether the signing ceremony was canceled.
Trump had earlier said the meeting involved “very productive discussions” and “the relationship is as good as it has ever been — better.”
“No matter what happens, we’re ultimately going to have a deal that’s very good for Chairman Kim and his country and for us. I think ultimately that’s what’s going to happen,” he said in a video released slightly more than an hour before Sanders made the announcement.
It is the second summit for the two, who first met in June 2018, when they agreed to “work toward complete denuclearization” of the peninsula and seek “a lasting and stable peace regime.”
