House Democrats have introduced a bill to ban the White House from forcing employees to sign nondisclosure agreements, after a report alleged that President Trump forced some workers to sign NDAs.
The White House rejected that report this week. “I can tell you that the report was completely false,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told reporters.
Nonetheless, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., introduced a bill on Tuesday that would ban Trump and other presidents from forcing employees to sign these agreements.
“If this report is accurate, the non-disclosure agreements President Trump is forcing administration officials to sign could prevent them from alerting the public to illegal or unethical conduct in the White House,” he said.
His bill would clarify that NDA’s involving people employed by the White House would not be enforceable against officials who are trying to blow the whistle on waste, fraud and abuse within the government.
“Congress has a duty to perform oversight of the Executive Branch, and this bill will ensure that White House officials with knowledge of malfeasance will not be afraid to come forward.”
Krishnamoorthi’s bill has one cosponsor, Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash.
