says “the job is different” than when he was in charge of the agency.
Jeh Johnson
said the “immigration problem” is much larger than when he presided over it while
speaking with
David Lat on the Original Jurisdiction podcast.

“Well, the job, first of all, is different than it was when I was in office seven, eight years ago,” Johnson said. “The current secretary was my deputy secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas. The job is different. The immigration problem is much bigger than it was.”
Johnson served as Homeland Security secretary from 2013 until 2017 after serving as the general counsel for the Department of Defense under the Obama administration.
When asked if he had any advice for Mayorkas, who has received
numerous calls
to resign due to his job performance, Johnson said he should stay on message.
“So, sometimes, the essence of the job is repeating over and over again one simple, straightforward message that you want people to hear,” Johnson said on the podcast.
