Oklahoma State football fans will be required to wear masks at games

Fans eager to watch in-person games of a major Big 12 football team this fall will be required to wear face masks while in the stadium.

In a statement released on Thursday, representatives from Oklahoma State University said fans who choose to attend games at famed Boone Pickens Stadium will need to abide by citywide restrictions that mandate face coverings because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Both Oklahoma State University and the city of Stillwater have ordinances in place for people to wear face coverings in public spaces in order to stop the spread of COVID-19,” the university wrote in a statement. “This applies to Boone Pickens Stadium, as well.”

According to the Texas Tribune, prominent Big 12 members Texas A&M and the University of Texas will join OSU, announcing last week that they will require face masks inside stadiums and during tailgating before games in the parking lot.

“Acceptable face coverings include R95, KN95, dust masks, procedural masks, cotton bandanas, neck gaiters, running buffs, and some tightly woven scarves,” the statement from OSU added. “Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.”

The university will install Plexiglas at concession stands, and hand sanitizer stations will be spread throughout the stadium to mitigate fears about the virus.
