Keeping Steel/Steele straight at young D.C. GOP party

D.C.’s young conservatives packed a swank Dupont gallery Thursday night to honor the D.C. GOP’s most influential 35 locals under 35. Honorees included Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., Mitt Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul and John Boehner spokesman Michael Steel, who was on hand to get the night’s best applause line.

As Ashton-Theodore Randle rattled off the names of the honorees to the crowd, he paused at Steel’s name. “Not the one who looks like me,” he clarified, to hearty laughter. Randle, like former RNC Chairman Michael Steele, happens to be black. Steel, who is white, was recently quoted on CNN while a photo of Steele flashed on the screen.
