Leaked sex tapes of two Iranian officials have led to accusations of “hypocrisy” by a government that punishes adultery under strict Islamic law.
The tapes began appearing online early this month. The first tape, released Aug. 4, depicts a former provincial governor Ali Mohammad Ahmadi having sex with a woman not his wife, according to France 24.
Ahmadi had recently resigned his position as governor to run for the legislature.

Local media outlets reported that the tape was filmed by a hidden camera in an attempt by a foreign agency to blackmail Ahmadi, and the agency released the tape after the blackmail failed.
A second video of Ahmadi leaked Aug. 6 showing him with the same woman talking and kissing.
On Aug. 9, another sex tape leaked showing Sadra Mayor Abbas Malekzadeh with a naked woman. Malekzadeh filmed the video himself on his cellphone.

“We already knew that lots of Iranian officials were living double lives — that’s not really a secret — but these videos are proof,” said an Iranian journalist.
“People see these videos as just more proof of government officials’ hypocrisy,” the anonymous journalist added. “These men have the right to have sexual relations, of course, and most people don’t really care who they do it with … but the men in question are officials of the Islamic Republic, a country with a morality police that arrests people for dating out of wedlock.”
