A border wall engineer declined President Trump’s invitation to explain secret surveillance technology that is being used on the wall opting instead to try to keep the additions unknown.
Trump was speaking to reporters at a section of replacement border fence in Otay Mesa, California, on Wednesday. While fielding questions about the wall, the president began discussing new technology that’s being used at the border and asked acting Army Corps of Engineers chief, Lt. Gen. Todd Semonite, to extrapolate on his remarks.
“One thing we haven’t mentioned is technology, they’re wired so that we will know if somebody’s trying to break through,” Trump said, turning to Semonite, “and you may want to discuss that a little bit, General.”
“Sir, there could be some merit in not discussing that,” Semonite replied, which elicited laughter.
“OK, I like that. That was a great answer,” Trump countered, but proceeded to talk about the technology nonetheless. “I’ll just tell you they’re wired. OK, they’re wired. They’re technologically very advanced. All set up for cameras any place we want. We have everything we need, but it’s all set up for cameras, for anything; you’ve been hearing drone technology. They’re all wired for drone technology. Anything you want, we have.”
