Developers, transit experts and Prince George’s County officials are hosting a community panel discussion on Monday to discuss the development future of the New Carrollton station, home to Metro and MARC commuter rail lines.
New Carrollton is one of the county’s transit stations targeted for transit-oriented development, which proponents say can provide safer, more walkable streets, new retail choices, a variety of housing options and increased real estate values.
A key topic of discussion on Monday will be keeping the area affordable for longtime residents.
“While building more vibrant and diverse neighborhoods around transit stations has many benefits, it can also create new challenges for residents who already struggle with housing costs,” the news release says. “How can transit-oriented development be leveraged to not only create more desirable places to live and work, but also preserve and create new quality housing choices that are affordable to a variety of residents?”
Panelists include Jair Lynch, founder of JAIR LYNCH Development, and David Bowers of Enterprise Community Partners. The forum is hosted by Envision Prince George’s and the Coalition for Smarter Growth.
