Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone endorsed Laura Loomer’s bid to represent Florida’s 21st District Congress.
Gaetz and Stone both put their political weight behind Loomer, a controversial political activist. They argued that Loomer is the strongest Republican in the race and encouraged voters to support her in her primary election on Aug. 18.
“She has bigger balls than most of the men,” Stone said. “You need her in Washington fighting for you. We need her in Washington to join the band of rebels because she is courageous. She is knowledgeable. She is fearless.”
Loomer was banned from Twitter after labeling Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar “anti-Jewish” and claiming that Omar, a Muslim, was from a religion in which “homosexuals are oppressed” and “women are abused.” In his endorsement, Gaetz, a Republican, argued that Loomer has the firsthand experience to defend people from online censorship.
“When we find folks who they try to disappear or silence because they chose to speak out, we need to have their back! And that’s why I’m proud to endorse Laura Loomer for Congress,” Gaetz said.
The endorsements were announced during the annual Palm Beach Republican Party’s “Lobsterfest” fundraiser held at the Trump International Golf Club earlier this month. Loomer is considered a front-runner for the primary race, and she has raised more than $1 million for her bid. If she wins, she will face incumbent Democrat Rep. Lois Frankel in the general election.
Loomer told the Washington Examiner that she was “honored” by the endorsements.
“I am honored to receive endorsements of my candidacy from Republican political icon Roger Stone and Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, who is arguably one of the best fighters we have In Congress in the Republican Party,” Loomer said.
“I look forward to being a freedom fighter in Congress with him next year after I flip Florida’s 21st District Red in November. Together, we are going to be a great team for Florida, the American people, and President Trump. I’m also very excited that Roger Stone will be joining me on the campaign trail now that he has been granted clemency by President Trump,” she added.
