DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — The University of New Hampshire is opening its two marine research facilities to the public for free demonstrations and activities to show how the college connects to the sea.
At the Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory at the Durham campus, participants can remotely operate an underwater research vehicle in the lab’s 380,000-gallon tank. There will also be demonstrations on how researchers might harness energy from the tides and waves and opportunities to touch horseshoe crabs and seaweed.
At the university’s Judd Gregg Marine Research Facility in New Castle, participants will learn about lobsters, whales, flounder, conch and trout and may take a guided walk around Fort Constitution.
The events run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and admission is free.
