Former FBI Director James Comey reacted to Rod Rosenstein calling him a “partisan pundit” on Monday with five words.
“I wish him the best,” Comey told CNN.
Rosenstein, who left his role as deputy attorney general last week, delivered a scathing rebuke of Comey in a speech in Baltimore.
“Now the former director is a partisan pundit, selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the strength of my character and the fate of my immortal soul,” Rosenstein told the Greater Baltimore Committee. “That is disappointing. Speculating about souls is not a job for police and prosecutors.”
He also defended the memo he wrote at President Trump’s request that was used a justification to fire Comey in May 2017.
Rosenstein’s speech comes less than a week after Comey participated in a CNN town hall during which he said his ex-deputy lacked a “strong character.”
Rosenstein stayed on with the Justice Department until after the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. Rosenstein appointed Mueller in the days after Comey was fired and oversaw the inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
