Former President Jimmy Carter was released from the hospital just in time for Thanksgiving.
Carter, 95, was released from Emory University Hospital on Wednesday after he had surgery on Nov. 11 to relieve pressure on his brain caused by a subdural hematoma.
“He and Mrs. Carter look forward to enjoying Thanksgiving at home in Plains, where he will continue to recover,” the Carter Center said in a statement. “The Carters are grateful for all the prayers, cards, and notes they have received and hope everyone will join them in enjoying a special Thanksgiving.”

The hospitalization followed several recent falls. Carter fractured his pelvis in October after falling at his home in Georgia. Earlier that month, he fell and hit his forehead, requiring 14 stitches above his eyebrow and leaving him with a black eye. In May, he had surgery after he fell and broke his hip while he was preparing to go turkey hunting.
Carter was the 39th president of the United States, holding the Oval Office from 1977 until 1981. He was defeated after one term in the White House by President Ronald Reagan in 1980.
