Jimmy Kimmel: Trump ‘trying to kill himself’ is ‘only reasonable’ explanation for taking hydroxychloroquine

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel joked that the only plausible explanation for why President Trump is taking hydroxychloroquine is because he is suicidal.

Trump revealed earlier this week that he’s taking hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial medication that has not been proven to prevent or treat the coronavirus. The president has frequently promoted the medication during the pandemic because it has shown promising signs of being able to treat COVID-19, but the medical experts working with the administration’s response team have been hesitant to do the same.

Kimmel provided his theory as to why the president is taking hydroxychloroquine during his show Tuesday night.

“I thought about it for a long time last night. I have come to what I think is the only reasonable conclusion. He’s trying to kill himself. Remember how we all said he didn’t really want to be president? He wished he was at home, at Mar-a-Lago playing golf, and finding ways to humiliate his friends? That he’s miserable in the White House? Well, guess what? I think we were right. And I think he’s had enough,” he said.

The segment also included clips from the president’s press conference when he revealed he was taking hydroxychloroquine. In the clips, the show superimposed Trump losing his hair, implying that hair loss is a side effect from the medication.

“I think he’s worried he might get reelected, despite the fact he’s done everything possible to make sure no one would ever want to vote for him again,” Kimmel said, claiming that the president “colluded with Russia” despite no evidence to support the claim, “extorted Ukraine” in reference his impeachment, and “declared his love for [North Korean dictator] Kim Jong Un.”

“He’s still popular and still trapped in that White House, and there’s only one way out now. A big glass of bleach with a hydro and Z-Pak chaser,” he continued before calling the president’s Twitter feed “basically the world’s longest suicide note.”

Earlier this month, Kimmel issued an apology after he ran a segment about a deceptively edited video of Vice President Mike Pence.
