A Washington Post/ABC News poll indicates only 9 percent of likely voters consider Iraq to be a main concern. As the Post explains in today’s editorial, “Simply put, the situation in Iraq has been transformed in the past two years, and voters recognize it…. The irony is that the reversal of fortunes came about after President Bush ignored the message from 2006 voters and the Democratic congressional majority they elected. Instead of withdrawing U.S. troops, Mr. Bush launched the ‘surge’ for which Republican John McCain had been pressing.” Which, in turn, made Iraq less of an issue, much to the benefit of Barack Obama. Funny how that works. In other news: My colleague Matt Continetti reminds us of the strange Redskins pre-election prophecies, in which the Redskins loss is bad news for the party that won the majority vote in the previous election (the party in power)–except for 2004. But this does not mean the curse was broken, Matt. It only means the Republicans must have stolen the election.
