Republican John James is mounting a second run at U.S. Senate, taking on Michigan’s first-term senator, Democrat Gary Peters.
James, a veteran of the Army, announced his campaign on Thursday in an interview with Fox News. James lost his first bid for Senate to Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2018.
“I believe that right now nothing has changed. I still have a passion for service. I still have a clear vision,” James said. “We need the courage that was exhibited to us on D-Day. We need politicians who will go into Washington and will put service before self.”
“When I get there, we’re going to make sure to put the American people first. We’re going to put country over party. Put the people of the state of Michigan first,” James said.
James committed to donating 5% of his campaign contributions to charity.
The combat veteran and business owner was a newcomer to politics in 2018. He lost to three-term incumbent Stabenow by six points.
