Conservative firebrand Mark Levin urged Rep. Adam Schiff to release three months worth of communications to prove he has no ties to the whistleblower whose report has sparked an impeachment investigation into President Trump.
“Mr. Schiff, why don’t you release 90 days of your phone calls? Ninety days of your texts. Ninety days of your emails, because I know something pal, you are a leaker,” Levin demanded. “You are devious. Same with your staff.”
Schiff’s contacts with the alleged whistleblower became a focal point for congressional Republicans and supporters of the president after it was revealed two of Schiff’s aides on the House Intelligence Committee worked with the alleged whistleblower in the White House.
Some Republicans and right-leaning pundits have suggested that if an impeachment trial were to be held in the Senate, Schiff should be called as a fact witness.
The impeachment investigation, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership, centers on a July 25 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Trump pressured the foreign leader to investigate a political rival.
“Nancy Pelosi went to the microphone and announced, like a dictator, we are going to begin official, formal, an impeachment inquiry, which of course she can’t do,” Levin said. “She is one, may I say, knucklehead out of 435 in the House of Representatives. She’s from San Francisco. It doesn’t work that way. Why would she do that before she got the transcript? Why? Because she had this.”
Like Trump’s most vocal defenders, Levin painted the alleged whistleblower as an unhinged partisan out to get Trump.
“The little rogue CIA operative. This document is a thousand times worse than the actual transcript, which isn’t even cited in this document because this rogue CIA agent never had this document,” Levin said of Democrats’ case for impeachment.
Schiff has gone to great lengths to protect the identity of the whistleblower, though he claimed he does not know the person’s identity.
