WATCH LIVE: Kamala Harris gives speech to 7th Episcopal District AME Church


Vice President Kamala Harris is in South Carolina on Saturday to give the keynote speech at a local church.

Harris is appearing before the Women’s Missionary Society of the Seventh District African Methodist Episcopal Church during their annual retreat. She is expected to speak on the Jan. 6 Capitol riots since it is the third anniversary.

“In a politically charged climate, our commitment to building a beloved community through love in action becomes even more crucial,” Seventh District Presiding Prelate Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr., said in a statement.

The AME branch of the Methodist Church in the U.S. was created in the 1700s amid racial discrimination at the time. Today, there are many congregations worldwide, totaling millions of members.

President Joe Biden will be speaking to the Mother Emanuel AME Church, also in South Carolina, on Monday. This was the site of a racially-motivated mass shooting that killed nine members in 2015.

Donald Trump won South Carolina in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Biden and Harris are seemingly trying to establish a foothold in the state in the hopes of flipping it in 2024.
