Adam Schiff says public impeachment hearings to begin next week

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff announced Wednesday that open impeachment hearings would begin next week.

William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat to Ukraine, and George Kent, deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs, would be the first to publicly testify to the congressional committees leading the investigation into President Trump’s conduct with Ukraine.

The two will answer questions on Wednesday.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch would testify Friday, Nov. 15.

All three have testified behind closed doors.

Taylor told House investigators last month that Trump conditioned the release of U.S. military aide on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s willingness to publicly announce an investigation into Burisma Holdings, the gas company that hired Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, and Ukraine’s alleged interference in the 2016 election.

Kent testified that he was told to “lay low” when he raised concerns about Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal lawyer, who was working to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.

Yovanovitch blamed Giuliani and his associates for her ouster, accusing them of taking part in a campaign to damage her credibility in the United States.
