Support for Buttigieg growing in New Hampshire, dropping for Biden: Poll

A new poll shows that 2020 contender Pete Buttigieg has jumped to third place in New Hampshire among likely Democratic voters.

The University of New Hampshire Granite State poll released Monday shows Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., leading at 30% followed by former Vice President Joe Biden, who has yet to announce a run, at 18% among likely Democratic voters. Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., rounded out the top three taking 15% in the poll.

When the same poll was conducted in February, Buttigieg only registered 1% support among those surveyed. Other notable changes from February include Sanders’ support rising 4 points and Biden’s support falling 4 points. Biden and Buttigieg are within the poll’s margin of error.

Biden has come under fire in recent weeks after a number of women accused him of inappropriate or uncomfortable physical contact. The accusations began with Nevada politician Lucy Flores, who said that Biden grabbed her shoulders and kissed her head while at a campaign rally in 2014.

Notably, the poll also shows declining support for Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who is down 6 points since February, going from third place at 10% to fifth place at 4% — Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is garnering 5% support among likely Democratic voters in New Hampshire.

Biden, who is expected to soon announce a run, is leading the pack nationally at 30% in a RealClearPolitics average of polls with Sanders commanding 22.5% of the vote. Buttigieg registers at 6% nationally.
