Gutowski lives in Alexandria and is content editor of Eyeblast.TV.
What exactly is Eyeblast.TV?
It’s essentially a conservative video aggregator. We post important videos from the conservative movement.
How did you first get involved with blogging?
I first started blogging senior year of college. I started posting college papers on a site called HubPages.com, and then I sort of learned from there. I opened my own site the summer of 2009, called TheCollegePolitico.com.
Why do you like working with videos in comparison to print media?
Video really allows you to convey sort of subtleties that you just really can’t get with print. There’s a lot more you can do with multimedia. … It’s really something that the conservative movement needs to utilize in a more effective way than in the past.
What characteristics make an online video go “viral”?
It has to be something that is going to be interesting to people. That sounds really simple, but you look at videos that go viral and they’re not always about the same subject. There’s no foolproof formula for doing it. Essentially you have to have good content, provide people with some new and important information. Or just be incredibly entertaining. It’s really more of an art than a science.
What types of videos do you tend to post on Eyeblast.TV?
I like to look for things that nobody has seen before. A new piece of information that’s important to the conservative movement. … The thing about the blogosphere is that you get to stories days and sometimes even weeks before the major outlets get to them. So I look for videos that I know will be important to adding to conversation in the country … and I try to get them out to as many people as possible.
