Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik bashed Alexander Vindman’s attorney for making a “sexist remark” toward her.
Vindman, an Army lieutenant colonel and Ukraine director on the National Security Council, testified before Congress as part of the impeachment proceedings against President Trump. During the testimony, his attorney, Michael Volkov, asked Stefanik who she was.
“First off, I don’t know who you are, if you could identify yourself for the record,” he said.
Steve Castor, a top investigator from Rep. Jim Jordan’s office leading the Republicans’ line of questioning, notified Volkov who Stefanik was and told him that no other staffers were asking questions.
“Okay, I don’t know who you were. I apologize,” Volkov responded.
“I get asked that a lot,” Stefanik said.
Volkov responded, “Oh, that’s good,” to which Stefanik replied, “No, it’s not good. But I will continue my line of questioning.”
Albany Times Union’s managing editor, Casey Seiler, highlighted this moment from the testimony on Twitter, something Stefanik wasn’t thrilled about.
She noted that “everyone who was in the room [knew it] was a sexist remark just because I was the only young woman at the table and it was wrongly assumed I was staff.” She also claimed that members of both parties said it was “disgusting to witness.”

Stefanik, 35, has been in Congress for three terms while representing New York’s 21st Congressional District.
