Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley announced her endorsement of Sen. Elizabeth Warren for the president, which is a break from the other members of “the squad” who have already endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Pressley, a first-term congresswoman, announced her endorsement of her fellow Massachusetts congressional member in a video she posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

“You’ve all heard about the senator’s plans but here’s the thing: The plans are about power, who has it, who refuses to let it go, and who deserves more of it. For Elizabeth and for me power belongs in the hands of the people,” she stated. “That’s why she’s fighting for fundamental change that restores power to those who’ve been left behind and centers those who’ve never had access to it in the first place.”
“I’m proud to call her my senator. I can’t wait to call her our president,” Pressley added.
Last month, three of Pressley’s prominent progressive freshman colleagues, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota endorsed Warren’s fellow progressive opponent in Sanders.
At the time her colleagues endorsed Sanders, Pressley said that she had “tremendous respect for her sisters-in-service” but would make her own decision.
She is expected to make her debut on the Warren campaign trail Thursday in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Warren will host a town hall, Buzzfeed News reported.
