Pete Buttigieg is taking flak for a resurfaced 2017 photo that depicts him at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin.
Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten Buttigieg, posted the image of the South Bend mayor posing at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, captioning the photo, “This guy.”
Many on Twitter ripped the Buttigiegs for that picture that some said was disrespectful to Holocaust victims. Others pointed out that taking pictures at the memorial is a common occurrence, but still disrespectful.
I wish I could read Buttigieg fans trip over themselves to explain why that Holocaust photo is just fine and says nothing about him as a person but I’m sure instead they’ll just ignore it like Warren fans do the whole Native American thing.

this is also apparently an incredibly common way of behaving at the holocaust memorial
note: absolutely not making an excuse for buttigieg in any way whatsoeverhttps://t.co/y1h0Vn43dx

When Pete Buttigieg came out in 2015, this particular meme — gay men using photos taken at the (admittedly, visually dramatic) Berlin holocaust as their IG selfie / Grindr profile pic — was at least three years old. https://t.co/SQx8EhUeWt

The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is not the only memorial where posing for a photo is considered inappropriate. The Auschwitz Memorial has criticized tourists who take photos of themselves balancing on the railroad tracks in front of the death camp.
When you come to @AuschwitzMuseum remember you are at the site where over 1 million people were killed. Respect their memory. There are better places to learn how to walk on a balance beam than the site which symbolizes deportation of hundreds of thousands to their deaths. pic.twitter.com/TxJk9FgxWl

The Washington Examiner did not immediately receive comment from either the Buttigieg campaign or the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
