Former Vice President Joe Biden’s town hall on CNN was outperformed by Fox News and MSNBC from a rating perspective.
Biden’s town hall, which occurred Monday night, had an audience of 1.15 million people with 296,000 in the key 25-54 age demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research. The special broadcast went up against Sean Hannity on Fox News and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC — both of whom anchor two of the most-watched cable news programs. The event also went into Laura Ingraham and Lawrence O’Donnell’s shows.
Fox’s programming Monday night during Biden’s event had an audience of 2.9 million viewers with 434,000 in the key demographic, while MSNBC’s programming had an audience of 2.7 million and 428,000.
Last month, the former vice president participated in CNN’s LGBT town hall event, in which nine candidates were given about 30 minutes to host a short televised event. His appearance during that town hall had 1.3 million viewers.
Presidential candidates Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg all had events on the network that had larger audiences.
