Suspect in armored car robbery dies, 2 arrested

The man shot in the hold-up of an armored-car guard has died, and two other robbery suspects have been arrested, D.C. police said.

The dead man has been identified as 27-year-old Kirk Anthony Dean of Northwest Washington. Arrested were Darnell Crews, 26, and Anthony Jones, 21, both of the 800 block Butternut Street NW. They were charged with attempted armored car robbery.

According to police, Dean and the other two men approached a Garda armored vehicle in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy in the 6500 of Georgia Avenue NW at around 11 a.m. Wednesday. A gunman demanded the money being carried by the armored-car guard, and a shoot-out erupted.

The robbers fled, and Dean was admitted to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.
