PALMYRA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they’ve charged a western New York woman with animal cruelty after police looking for a missing adult found the carcasses of two of her horses on a rural property.
Local media report that sheriff’s deputies in Wayne County were looking for a missing adult on June 7 when they found a dead horse in an old barn in the town of Palmyra, 20 miles east of Rochester. A second dead horse was found in a nearby field.
The forensic lab at Cornell University determined the horses died from starvation.
Deputies say they charged 23-year-old Christine Mulcahy of Fairport with animal cruelty. A third horse she stabled south of Rochester has been seized.
Mulcahy is free on bail. It couldn’t be immediately be determined if she has a lawyer.
