Man killed in I-66 crash

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County has claimed the life of a South Carolina man.

According to Virginia State Police, a 1997 BMW sedan was traveling west on I-66, weaving across lanes around 4 p.m. Monday, when the driver apparently lost control. The car ran off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail, then crossed back into the westbound lanes where it struck a 1999 Ford Explorer.

The Ford Explorer spun out of control and overturned several times. Its driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the SUV. He died at the scene.

Charges are pending, police said.
