The Obamas are growing their media empire.
Former first lady Michelle Obama, 55, is launching a video series on Instagram in partnership with digital media company ATTN: and her Reach Higher initiative, according to Axios.
The series, “A Year of Firsts,” will highlight stories about students navigating their first year of college. The first episode of the six-part series will premiere on IGTV in mid-January. The last will be posted in June.
“As a first-generation college student myself, I know how intimidating it can be to take that leap and pursue your educational dreams. That’s why I’m so proud of these students,” Obama said in a statement. “By sharing their stories, they’re helping others see that the ups and downs of the first year of college are something everyone goes through — and they’re creating a supportive community for others facing similar challenges.”
“As Mrs. Obama highlights in each episode, there are many hidden challenges to making it through college,” ATTN: co-founder Matthew Segal added. “This series will meet many students where they live — on Instagram — and share candid perspectives about how to overcome barriers.”
The Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground, announced last year it was working with Spotify to produce podcasts. They also signed a multiyear deal with Netflix to produce films and series for the streaming service.
