A Pro-Trump activist held up an American Airlines flight over the weekend as he laughed in a social media video over refusing to wear a mask, claiming he had a medical condition.
Right-wing activist David Harris Jr. encouraged people on Instagram to look at mask exemptions for medical conditions on airline websites and refuse to abide by public health rules to stop the spread of the coronavirus if they believe they qualify.
“So my bride and I, oh they tried to kick us off folks, they tried to kick us off the plane,” Harris Jr. began while laughing. “But nope! We have laws, and we have rights. And that’s why we live in the greatest country in the world, are you kidding me!”
The activist then said in a disclaimer he was not encouraging people to lie about medical conditions. He later said the ire he faced from the captain and others on the plane was because of his “Keep America Great” hat. Harris said in his video that no one left the plane.
“If you have a medical condition, you can get put on the no-mask list. I think the individuals that have a problem with me and my wife, I think it was more about our hats. And oh yeah, they loved that it was signed too,” he continued, encouraging people to stand up for their rights and buy his book.
American Airlines has a new policy being instituted this week that says, “Only customers under the age of two will be exempt from the new face-covering policy. No other exemptions will be granted, even for those with verifiable medical conditions, due to the safety risk of asymptomatic COVID-19 transmission by customers without face coverings. If a customer cannot wear a face covering, they will not be able to travel on American Airlines.”
