An episode of The View came to an uncomfortable conclusion after host Joy Behar attacked Ted Cruz’s faith and former host Paula Faris came to his defense.
On Thursday, the co-hosts discussed Faris’s podcast, Journeys of Faith, during which she interviews high-profile political personalities about their religious convictions.
“Did you ask Ted Cruz how he reconciles his faith with some of the policies of Trump, like separating children from their parents?” Behar asked Faris, who appeared on the show for what was intended to be a lighthearted reunion.
“Yes, and he actually stood up to him,” Faris said about Cruz taking on Trump over the issue. “He does not agree with that policy.”
She pointed out that the Texas Republican introduced a bill last summer to end family separation.
“He says, ‘I’m an ally, but there are things that he says and does that I don’t agree with,'” Faris continued, characterizing Cruz’s relationship with the president.
Behar made it clear she did not believe the former host, saying, “Uh-huh, yeah, right.”
An awkward pause followed before Faris said, “Hi everybody, it is so good to be back.” Host Whoopi Goldberg then ended the segment and said the show would be back after a commercial break. However, the program did not return.
