Guy Snodgrass finally rejected rumors that he was the anonymous author of a tell-all book about the Trump administration.
Snodgrass, an ex-speechwriter for former Defense Secretary James Mattis, had tiptoed around rumors that he was the author of A Warning, a book that was written by the same anonymous author of a New York Times op-ed that claimed there were high-level White House advisers who were resisting President Trump.
The former speechwriter refused to directly answer whether he authored the book during a Monday interview on Fox News and tweeted, “The swirl continues” in response to a New Republic article suggesting that he could be responsible for the book and the op-ed.
The next day, Snodgrass joined CNN’s New Day and shot down rumors that he had written the book after his repeated coy responses about the tell-all. Host Alisyn Camerota pressed him to give a straight answer, asking, “There’s been lots of speculation that it is you. What is your answer? Are you the writer?”
“No, I’m not the writer,” Snodgrass replied. “I got asked that. Evidently, that news popped before I went on to a different television show yesterday. They asked me the question. I kind of batted it away. I thought it would be asked and we’d be done. To put it to rest, no, I’m not the author of A Warning. I’m not the anonymous op-ed writer.”
Snodgrass, who recently released his book Holding the Line, said he would put his name on anything he wrote. “I put my name to it because I think it’s important. Readers need the opportunity to assess who wrote the material. Who wrote the book? What is their bias? Where do they come from? What is their background? Are they an expert?”
He said he has “no idea” who wrote the book and claimed there were no consistent rumors in the administration as to who is the anonymous author.
The White House brushed off the book and called the author a “coward.”
