Former U.S. Attorney John diGenova accused alleged whistleblower Eric Ciaramella of committing a “political assassination,” comparing him to former President Abraham Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth.
Speaking with Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese on their Washington, D.C.-based radio show Mornings on the Mall, diGenova discussed House Democrats’ impeachment proceedings before turning his attention to the anonymous person who filed the complaint that launched it all.
“This is a political assassination. This is a decapitation of a president. This is regicide,” he began. “This has nothing to do with the lawful processes of the U.S. Constitution. Exhibit A: They don’t want us to identify the key person who made the accusation that started the impeachment process, the guy, Eric Ciaramella.”
DiGenova then agreed, “Okay, we won’t identify him” and instead compared him to John Wilkes Booth.
“The whistleblower slash anonymous informant, his name is as follows: John Wilkes Booth. That’s the name of the informant,” he said. “He worked at the CIA, and he is part of a political assassination. It’s now underway, and all of the listeners should realize that that’s what this is about. This is a fraud on the Constitution and a fraud on the American people.”
He went on to accuse Democrats of being “complicit with the media on this regicide.”
House Democrats began the impeachment process against Trump after a whistleblower filed a complaint about his July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the conversation, the president urged the foreign leader to investigate the 2020 Democratic front-runner, former Vice President Joe Biden, and debunked allegations that the country interfered in the 2016 U.S. election.
Lawmakers are attempting to get to the bottom of whether military aid or state meetings were withheld in exchange for an announcement of the investigations.
Last month, RealClearInvestigations named the alleged whistleblower at the center of the proceedings as Eric Ciaramella, but the report has not been confirmed. Lawyers for the whistleblower called attempts to out their client the “pinnacle of irresponsibility.”
Ciaramella, 33, is a career CIA analyst. He was the Ukraine director on the National Security Council during the end of the Obama administration and remained for the beginning of the Trump administration, briefly acting as senior director for European and Russian affairs. Ciaramella now works as deputy national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia on the National Intelligence Council under the director of national intelligence.
DiGenova, a frequent Fox News guest, has been known to push conspiracy theories about the Department of Justice and the FBI.
