Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh predicted conservative states might secede from the rest of the country.
Limbaugh, speaking on his show Wednesday, warned that “there cannot be a peaceful coexistence,” and suggested that the country is “trending toward secession” after a caller asked him how Republicans can win national elections if they can’t recapture “blue cities.”
“Iâve alluded to this a couple of times ’cause Iâve seen others allude to this. I actually think that weâre trending toward secession,” the host said. “I see more and more people asking, ‘What in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York?’ Especially if youâre talking about votes.”
He then said that “more and more people,” referring to conservatives, are questioning “what in the world” they have in common with people who live in New York.
“There cannot be a peaceful coexistence of two completely different theories of life, theories of government, theories of how we manage our affairs. We canât be in this dire a conflict without something giving somewhere along the way,” he added.
Limbaugh concluded the segment by saying he wasn’t sure if he wanted this scenario to play out in real life.
“I know that thereâs a sizable and growing sentiment for people who believe that that is where weâre headed whether we want to or not. Whether we want to go there or not,” he concluded. “I myself havenât made up my mind.”
Rep. Price Wallace, a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, urged his state to secede from the United States after President-elect Joe Biden won the election, but he has since apologized.
