About 11 million people tuned in to watch the start of President Trump’s impeachment trial.
The start of the trial was Tuesday and lasted more than 12 hours. The numbers were calculated by factoring in viewers from six cable and broadcast networks.
Fox News had the most viewers, with 2.65 million watching the 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. time slot. CBS came in second, with 1.94 million tuning in during that time frame. MSNBC came in third with 1.9 million viewers, and CNN trailed, with about 1.44 million watching the trial.
The total number of 11 million was less than the 13.8 million who watched the first day of the House’s impeachment proceedings against Trump, which led to the two charges, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, that the president is facing now.
Tuesday’s proceedings lasted until almost 2 a.m.
Trump is accused of pressuring Ukraine to investigate his 2020 political rival Joe Biden, as well as the time the former vice president’s son spent on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. The president has denied all wrongdoing.
